Day 1 - Wimbledon to Epernay

Travelled 433 km

Andrew: Well it’s day 1 of our little tour and we’re on our way! We left at 4:30am this morning a bit blurry eyed from the snakebites and shots at the Puzzle last night. We hit the chunnel just before 7am and surfaced in France at 9am. The roads in France are awesome and we made good time down to the Champagne region. It’s been a nice relaxing afternoon. Debs has just been making a few adjustments to the packing. Everything is closed here today being Sunday so no hope of getting a nice bottle of Champers for this evening!

Debbie: Thanks to Julz and Ryan for getting us up so early this morning. We left England in English style – pouring with rain!! from Wimbledon to Folkstone. Found our campsite in Epernay pretty easy. It’s quite a “posh” little campsite as it’s on municipal grounds but it’s surrounded by vineyards and a lake – very pretty and peaceful. We are sitting in a lovely spot having a drink and loving Jonny and Rita for the big bag of biltong they gave us – it’s such a treat!

Day 2 – Epernay to Evian

Travelled 497 km

Debbie: Today was a long drive but only because we hit rush hour traffic in Geneva which added on about an extra 2 hours onto the days driving. We decided to give the toll roads a miss today – they are boring and cost a lot of money! Before leaving Epernay we stopped in at the Mercier Campagne farm to get some champagne. We then spent the day climbing through the Alps to reach Geneva (amazing and dramatic scenery) and then after driving right round Lac Leman (Lake Geveva) we camped for the night on the French side of the lake. Again we found the campsite to be in a great spot and clean. Weather has been overcast and humid with a bit of rain.
